Our Story​

Murrays Nurseries was originally established in 1961 by Patrick’s father Maurice Murray, who returned from the Rotorua Forest Research Institute Nursery to start one of New Zealands first private forestry nurseries. Maurice started the business on the southern side of Woodville before moving the operation to family owned land on Sowry Road. Today the business incorporates 29ha of land and 9ha of leased land.

In the past Murrays Nurseries has grown a variety of products, when Patrick took over the business it focused on Pinus radiata seedlings.
In the first year of business in 2012 he produced 5.8 million Pinus radiata seedlings. The number of seedlings to harvest has grown substantially, with an estimated harvest for 2025 of 16..5 million seedlings. 

The excellence in pine stock quality and high production output is due to the unique soils, Patricks extensive 40 years' experience and his valued team, providing industry leading knowledge.
